Schools and other secondary educational institutions, teachers, police officers, and active parents who teach children bicycle safety rules, as well as students from all over Ukraine, are invited to participate.
The goal of the "Cycling September 2026" challenge is to:
Encourage children and adults to adopt an active lifestyle
Raise awareness of traffic safety among children and adolescents
Popularize the bicycle as a means of transport and develop sustainable school mobility
How to join the challenge This year, participants can compete in three categories: "Most Bicycle-Friendly School of Ukraine 2026," "Bike Mentor of Ukraine 2026," and "Bike Blogger of Ukraine 2026." Participation is free.
During the European Mobility Week, schools will count how many students and staff commute to school by bicycle or (electric) scooter. To participate, it is also necessary to appoint a school bike minister, conduct at least two traffic safety classes, complete a free online course for bike mentors, and share information about participation in the challenge on social media. An added advantage will be hosting a bike safety festival at the school during European Mobility Week.
The Bike Mentor of the Year will be selected from among those who teach students the theory and practice of bicycle safety at school.
