For the first time the sport began to play in the early 2000s in Kyiv and Uzhgorod, one of those who actively developed sports in Transcarpathia was journalist Alexander Popovich. Subsequently, the NGO Petan Federation of Ukraine (FPU) was formed, which was registered in April 2007.
Petro Gois became the president of the NGO FPU. The same year, Ukraine was first represented at the Women's European Championships (triplets) in Ankara. As part of the Championship, a congress took place where President of the World Petanque Federation (FIPJP), Claude Azema, announced the creation of a new Federation in Europe.
